Heart Scan Evaluation

This exam is an advanced and affordable health screening and includes an evaluation of the coronary (heart) arteries by providing a computerized measure for quantification of calcified plaque on the arteries. The Heart Scan provides valuable information through an advanced direct measure of your risk for heart disease or a heart attack.

You will be placed comfortably on the CT scanner table and ECG sensors will be placed on top of your chest (underneath your clothing) to monitor your heartbeat. This exam is completely safe and without any pain. The images are transferred to a computer workstation for a computer analysis of the amount of calcification on the arteries and then the images will be reviewed by a Board Certified radiologist.

No special preparation is required and the procedure is completed in less than 10 minutes.

Preventing coronary artery disease starts with awareness.

The coronary artery calcium score is best used in conjunction with other traditional risk factor analysis such as age, gender, lipid values, family history, smoking history, and history of high blood pressure and diabetes.

Unlike the other traditional risk factors, the presence of coronary artery calcification confirms the presence of coronary atherosclerosis.  Therefore, any score greater than zero is considered abnormal.  In general, the greater the degree of coronary artery calcium, (the higher the score), the greater the risk of having a significant coronary artery narrowing and a future cardiac event.
